Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m beginning a new position at my library. As the Digital Services Manager, I’ll be in charge of a newly formed department (or “group” as we’re calling them) that is expected to lead the library in all things digital, including the library’s mobile presence, its website (hello again, Drupal!), our new digital media lab currently in development, eReaders and other gadgets of interest to our community, and technology training for the public.

I’m very excited about taking on this new challenge, but thankfully I won’t be doing it alone. A few of my colleagues from the Information Services Department and the entire existing team of technology assistants will be joining me in this new adventure. Plus, the nature of our work will give us many opportunities to work with staff from across the library and obviously members of our community.

It feels terrific that my library’s administration trusts me with this new opportunity. Hopefully, I’ll rise to the challenge!

It’s official! I’ve accepted a new job at Arlington Heights Memorial Library. I’ll be their new Information Services Manager starting the first week of July. To be honest, it’s going to be very tough leaving Skokie because the past three years have been very good to me professionally. I’ve had a chance to work with some incredibly talented people and I’ve loved the work, but I just felt that this new opportunity at AHML was just too good to pass up. AHML has a great reputation and has been an innovator in many areas, so I think it’ll be a great fit for me. And who knows, maybe I’ll get a second crack at building a digital media lab! It never hurts to think big, right?!

For anyone reading this who doesn’t already know, I recently (as in two days ago) moved to the Chicago area to live closer to family and take a new job at the Skokie Public Library. I’ve had a great year with Thousand Oaks Library and will miss everyone there.

This also means that I won’t be posting any new entries to this blog. I haven’t had time to set up a new blog, but when I do I think it will be broader in scope rather than focusing on just library related stuff. Who knows, though? Maybe I’ll change my mind and keep a “professional” blog as well as a personal one.

Thanks for reading…

I’ll be making some changes to this site during the next few days, so it might look a bit off. Right now this is a free blog on wordpress.com, but I’m going to move it over to my remote server and install wordpress.org software. I’ve done this once before and it took me forever to figure out since everything I know and do with my websites is completely self-taught (read clueless). Hopefully this time, things will go a lot smoother and it won’t take long before my new and improved site is up…*fingers crossed*

–update–
Well, apparently I learned something the first time around because it didn’t take me long (1 hour?) to make some of the changes I wanted. The site is now hosted on a remote server and I have a lot more control over things. One obvious thing I changed immediately was the wordpress theme. It took me a long time to pick one since there are a gazillion to choose from. I finally settled on the one you see now, called TerraFirma, and the only things I modified were the header image and some of the sidebar widgets. What’dya think?
